A bespoke new-build cottage designed for modern living and energy efficiency.
MAS Systems was appointed to deliver the electrical installation for a newly built cottage, designed as a contemporary home for its owners. The project combined traditional cottage character with modern living requirements, incorporating smart lighting controls, renewable energy technology and integrated security.
A key consideration was ensuring that the electrical installation complemented the property's architectural features while delivering the functionality and convenience expected of a modern home. With exposed timber ceilings, carefully considered lighting and discreet cable routing were essential to maintaining the clean, natural aesthetic.
The result is a home where considered electrical design, smart technology and energy-conscious solutions work together to create a comfortable, secure and future-focused living environment.
The electrical installation encompassed the core infrastructure and specialist systems required to support modern residential living, with particular attention to the property's bespoke finishes and renewable energy ambitions.
Key elements included:
Delivering the installation required careful coordination between the electrical infrastructure, architectural details and the home's integrated technologies.
Working with exposed timber ceilings
The exposed timber ceiling presented a particular challenge for cable routing. Unlike conventional ceiling constructions, there was limited opportunity to conceal services within the fabric of the building. Cable routes therefore needed to be planned carefully to minimise visual impact while maintaining accessibility and appropriate installation standards.
Discreet solar cabling
The solar cabling required a considered approach to routing, ensuring that services remained as unobtrusive as possible without compromising electrical safety or applicable installation requirements. The objective was to integrate the renewable energy provision into the home without introducing unnecessary visual clutter.
Intelligent lighting control
Lutron smart lighting controls introduced a more flexible approach to everyday lighting, allowing the owners to manage their lighting through an integrated control system. In the bathrooms, warm amber lighting and motion-sensor activation provided a practical night-time solution, delivering softer illumination when moving around the home after dark.
A cohesive interior finish
Black Deco-style electrical accessories were selected to complement the property's ironmongery, helping maintain a consistent design language throughout the cottage. This attention to detail ensured that the electrical installation contributed to the overall interior aesthetic rather than detracting from it.
Comfort, efficiency and security
The electrical installation also supported the home's wider performance and usability objectives, including the air source heat pump and CCTV system. Together with the solar provision and smart lighting controls, these features helped create a home designed around comfort, convenience, energy consciousness and peace of mind.
